Starting Over.

So the pearl was just too much and I decided to scrap it for the blue.  Which means I had to order more blue.  Which I did.  And has now arrived.  Soon I will cut it, starting with 1.25 inch pieces and working down to smaller and smaller squares.  But there is good news, I have decided how I am going to work the piece as far as shidare and accents.  I am still deciding on the focal piece, which will not work in the same pattern as the previous attempt.  So I am starting over. Sort of.

Focal Point

I am working on one of the focal pieces of the hana kanzashi. The photo is what I have come up with, but not sure if I am liking it or not.  The three points are a different style for me, and the circular center is a new technique I am trying out.  It balances well, I think, but I am not sure how to incorporate the theme into the tiara.  Anything I make can be reused and sold as a different piece, so scrapping it in order to try something else would not hurt my feelings.

Butterflies

Butterflies are a common theme in kanzashi, especially accompanied with spring flowers.  I will have to do 4 more or so, 3 for the hana kanzashi with shidare, and 2 for the tiara.

Finished Piece 1

Bira Bira has been attached and is mounted and wrapped with thread in the traditional style.  I am going to wait and do a set of photos with the teapot after I finish the other two pieces.

Finished working on the kiku.  Now I have to wire and attach the bira bira and mount the piece.

So much for middle of August.....

SO, I am back from vacation, and already have a set lined up, a complete Maiko set with tiara, chrysanthemum with bira bira, and a hana piece with shidare.  The color scheme will be mustard yellow, medium blue, bright red, and pearl.  I have about two months to complete it, before it will be worn for a modeling shoot.  Then it will be returned and sold at a discounted price.  Really, I am just excited to have the excuse to make a tiara, as this will be my first attempt, so wish me luck!!!!!
